Inside Job is Published! -- Community Newsletter Issue 21

Published 5 months ago • 2 min read

Hey Reader!

David Kessler here.

Tanner Simmons, a regular attendee of Protospiel Online, is so excited to share his game, Inside Job, with you! He greatly appreciates all the feedback and support from the community when designing the game. I, for one, have spent numerous Protospiel nights playing games with Tanner, whose games are always a blast.

Inside Job available now! Are YOU The Insider?

Inside Job is now available to buy online and at your FLGS! This social deduction trick-taking game has players being dealt a hidden role card in addition to their hand of playing cards. You'll either be one of a team of Agents trying to play cards collaboratively into each trick to fulfill Missions, or the traitorous Insider who wants to try to win as many tricks as possible to obtain Intel and cause Missions to fail without looking too suspicious in the process.

Inside Job was playtested at Protospiel Online events under its original name, Tricky Little Death. Here's what the game looked like back in January, 2021:

In the original version of the game, Lost Spirits were attempting to work together and play tricks in order to complete Contracts while avoiding letting Death win too many tricks to acquire souls. After being signed under KOSMOS, the theme was changed over to Agents attempting to complete Missions together while keeping precious Intel away from the Insider. The game still plays the same way but with a fresh coat of paint, lots of extra bonus role cards, and a 2 player variant!

A helpful How To Play video for Inside Job can be found here!

The game has been reviewed by numerous board game podcasts and Youtube channels, including The Dice Tower!

Tanner also had the pleasure of being interviewed by Candice Harris for her series, Cardboard Creations, to talk about the design process of Inside Job.

The game is available for purchase from Thames & Kosmos' main website, but is also available through Amazon and other online tabletop game stores. On the main website, check out the downloadable rulebook and also consider checking out the KOSMOS Helper App to see a detailed, narrated tutorial that walks you through the game's rules step by step.

Hey Reader! Heather Newton here. When Protospiel Online attendees playtest with me and find out I'm the main person organizing the event, they sometimes ask me what prototypes I brought to test for the weekend. My response is that they've been playtesting my game the whole time they've been engaging with the convention. I suspect plenty of people think I'm kidding when I say this. While I might say it with a bit of a chuckle, I do mean what I say. This session, I made the prototype listing...

Ironwood: A Protospiel Success Story

Hey Reader! Emily Vincent here. Our Protospiel Community is incredibly inspiring and we love to celebrate each others' wins! Today is one of those stories, of playtesting that led to dreams coming true. Ironwood In 2022, at the summer Protospiel Online, Maël Brunet and Julien Chaput playtested their game "Black Flag." A few months later, after pitching it all around, they received 3 offers to sign the game! Mindclash Games was more than they could dream of and after one year of very dedicated...
