Hey Reader!

AnnaMaria Phelps here.

Everland Studio & Lemery Games are creating a different sort of hype for their game by offering it for free.

Robo Rescue: Origins is a competitive card game about rebuilding damaged robots from scratch. It's quick to learn (under 5 minutes), but offers deep tactical choices — designed for casual players and more mechanically minded folk. Set up your lab, collect parts, build, then score! You can compete against yourself in solo mode or go head-to-head with a friend to see who is the better engineer!

The card art is on point, and the crowdfunding campaign currently boasts over 3k backers. But Robo Rescue is about more than making a game for players. Designer Tama Leidal tells us, “Our Kickstarter campaign goes beyond the game itself. We're creating a live educational roadmap that shows in real time how to launch a board game on Kickstarter — from branding and marketing to logistics and fulfillment. We want to offer real tools, transparency, and lessons learned to inspire and guide indie creators throughout the process.”

The game offers a chance to gather round the table, “...but more importantly, it represents the creative journey of indie developers: starting with broken parts, and building something meaningful.”

Robo Rescue: Origins is a precursor to their upcoming game, Robo Rescue, in which players will help rescue the bots they’ve had a hand in building! “To make the project as accessible as possible, we’re offering the game completely free for backers (just cover shipping)”, says Tamas. “This creator-first approach is designed to lower barriers to entry, drive high engagement, and generate wide visibility — not for profit, but for community growth.” The campaign also features regular community games for backers to follow along. Lemery Games attended Protospiel Online last year with another game, Nakasendo (now called Onryo).

Tanner Simmons' Inside Job (playtested as Tricky Little Death at Protospiel Online) is now in full release on Board Game Arena!

Matthew Hocker, regular moderator for Protospiel Online and Administrator for the Break My Game Discord community, was recently voted onto the Tabletop Game Designer's Association (TTGDA) Advisory Board for a 2-year term. We're excited to see what he and the other board members will help TTGDA build for all of its members.
