Scrapbots and Micro Midgard in their final days -- Community Newsletter Issue 28

Hey Reader!

David Kessler here.

Scrapbots is in its final days on Kickstarter!

Congratulations to David Torres, who has been designing this awesome deck builder since 2019.

Scrapbots is a bot battling deck builder, combining the tactics of a card battler with the strategy of deck building. Set in a post-apocalyptic robot junkyard arena, you take on the mantle of a Scrapjack, a scrapbot operator competing for glory in the Arena. Build your army of scrapbots, power them up with gadgets, and overwhelm your opponents to rule the scrapyard.

Personally, I am so happy to see that David has gotten this far with his game. Scrapbots was my first intro to deck building back in 2019. In fact, it was one of the first games I ever playtested when I was just getting into game design in real life, pre-pandemic, in NYC. The game was totally playable and fun back then, and David seemed like such an experienced designer! I didn't know at the time how approachable and easy to pick up it was for a deck builder–I’ve since played many others that I struggled with.

Playing Scrapbots at a recent Protospiel Online was an awesome full circle moment for me. The game has been streamlined and improved. The art is awesome. Eli Beaird has done such a great job illustrating these adorable battling robots. Check out the Servoid, it's one of my faves.

If you like deck builders, this is a good one. It is straightforward enough to start playing right away, but has plenty of depth and combos to keep you interested for a long time. Plus, upgrading your robots is fun!

David playtested Scrapbots at several Protospiels. He received lots of great feedback and met many great designers. Scrapbots wouldn't be anywhere close to where it is now without Protospiel, he says. He met a key contributor to his game, Lane Davis (Final Strike), at Protospiel, who has been an amazing friend and collaborator.

Scrapbots is free to try on Screentop.

The Kickstarter goes until 10am on May 28, so act fast if you're intrigued.

Micro Midgard is also in its final days on Kickstarter!

Congratulations to Ben Downton of Prometheus games, who designed Micro Midgard and launched it earlier this month. The game has already funded!

Micro Midgard is a 30 minute tactical worker placement game for one or two players. Using the unique worker-movement mechanic from the hugely successful Micro Dojo, Micro Midgard brings a more complex head-to-head experience in a small package.

Micro Midgard was tested at a recent Protospiel, gaining some valuable feedback on the game's UI, accessibility, and on balance changes. Several people that played the game at Protospiel were excited to back it.

The Micro Midgard Kickstarter also ends on May, 28. So check it out now!
