Hey Reader!
David Kessler here.
Game design is a hobby for lots of us. As such, making a game provides plenty of intrinsic reward. When you make something fun, then you have fun too! However, it is always nice to be noticed. Here’s a chance to help people notice you, or to provide some notice to someone else!
The Electronic Literature Organization is accepting nominations for its annual awards through May 1st, 2023.
This is a call for nominations for a $1000 international award that could go to a Protospiel maker! The Robert Coover Award for a Work of Electronic Literature is an award given for the best work of electronic literature of any length or genre. The prize has a very broad description that fits all sorts of creative projects.
Anyone who has made a digital game with any kind of "literary" nature (storytelling, poetry, role-play) could win the Coover Prize! This would be a great way to celebrate the Protospiel Online community's tremendous creativity.
Participants may also be eligible for other categories:
The N. Katherine Hayles Award for Criticism of Electronic Literature is an award given for the best work of criticism, of any length, on the topic of electronic literature.
The Marjorie C. Luesebrink Career Achievement Award honors a visionary artist and/or scholar who has brought excellence to the field of electronic literature.
The Maverick Award is awarded to an independent spirit: a writer, artist, researcher, programmer, designer, performer, or hybrid creator who does not adhere to a conventional path.
You may self-nominate for the Coover and Hayles awards, but not for the Luesebrink or Maverick awards. These prizes are open to all Protospiel members, but probably best for games with an electronic and verbal component.

Hey Reader! Heather Newton here. When Protospiel Online attendees playtest with me and find out I'm the main person organizing the event, they sometimes ask me what prototypes I brought to test for the weekend. My response is that they've been playtesting my game the whole time they've been engaging with the convention. I suspect plenty of people think I'm kidding when I say this. While I might say it with a bit of a chuckle, I do mean what I say. This session, I made the prototype listing...
Hey Reader! David Kessler here. Congratulations to Leonie Grundler and the team at Lioness games who launched their new game Biome on Kickstarter, and it funded in just nine minutes! Biome combines strategic card placements and engine building in a nature themed tableau builder. You’ll raise baby animals, feed and protect them, achieve biodiversity, and activate unique flora and fauna abilities to create the best Biome and win the game! Biome comes with real straw nests. And yes, you get to...
Hey Reader! Emily Vincent here. Our Protospiel Community is incredibly inspiring and we love to celebrate each others' wins! Today is one of those stories, of playtesting that led to dreams coming true. Ironwood In 2022, at the summer Protospiel Online, Maël Brunet and Julien Chaput playtested their game "Black Flag." A few months later, after pitching it all around, they received 3 offers to sign the game! Mindclash Games was more than they could dream of and after one year of very dedicated...
