In 2022, I used one of the Stable Diffusion models offered through nightcafe.studio to create the initial character art as a baseline for what I wanted. Starting from this point, I spent nearly 2 years refining the artwork myself, photoshopping, shading, and putting the finishing touches on it to be ready for production.
\nDoes the publisher have the consent of the owners of the original works included in the training dataset?
As the game's publisher, I chose to use Night Cafe because they have their own royalty-free image training dataset they place a wide variety of generative AI models on top of. I appreciate their efforts to find ways to source training datasets ethically. That being said, given the ever-developing landscape around AI law, neither I nor Night Cafe can guarantee works created through their site will not at any point be deemed in violation of third party intellectual property rights.
Enter the Box Games received more interest than expected in their first campaign and wanted to let everyone know that they successfully funded and completed the first print run. For anyone interested in a \"late pledge\", Standoff is available for purchase on their website and ready to ship out!
\nIn Standoff, you battle in the highest-stakes arena in the universe. Champions have been assembled into teams and wait for you to command them. This fixed deck battle royale card game is for 2-6 players and can be enjoyed in 30-60 minutes. Each player commands eight unique super-powered champions and pits them against others to claim victory as the last one standing.
\nLuke recently had the privilege of presenting Standoff to the students of Professor Ted Prawat's Game Design 101 at George Mason University. He felt honored to help future game designers on their games. He discussed the many challenges he faced and how he overcame them, sharing insights on playtesting and player feedback. Luke has detailed Standoff's development journey on Enter the Box Games' website.
\nIn his presentation, Luke did not fail to mention the many great resources and communities online, such as Protospiel!
\nLuke wishes to express many thanks to game designers around the world from Protospiel Online last year. It was the first major playtesting convention he attended and was the spark of development that helped propel Standoff through the finish line.
\nTake me to Standoff! |

Hey Reader! David Kessler here. In preparation for sharing the project below, Protospiel Online took a page from Kickstarter's playbook and added AI disclosure steps to our newsletter feature request process. Going forward, any feature request for a project in which the publisher used generative AI to produce any portion of the final art or written material for the published work will answer two questions, which we'll share in a clearly visible callout. We've also added a statement covering Protospiel Online's stance on generative AI to our website's FAQ here.
